Super Speed Reading

Super Speed Letters and Phonics Sheets

Note for Teachers

In this version of SuperSpeed, students will start with this page for practice before going into the various levels and will progress forward together as a whole class, meaning that only 2-3 levels and 1 challenge will be done at a time. That way only 1-2 pages need to be printed and the teacher can progress at the same rate at which letters are being taught. One minute rounds can be implemented later to keep sessions short, but the focus should not only be on speed, but accuracy as well. Since this is SuperSpeed letters and phonics, letter names and/or sounds can be used.

Directions for Teachers

1. Put students into pairs and give them the Super Speed sheet for the letters taught that week.
2. In each pair, designate one student as 1 and the other as 2.
3. Demonstrate that each "1 student" should read the uppercase letter and each "2 student" should read the lowercase level.
4. Students go back and forth saying each letter. Students can raise their hands when they finish or you can set a timer and see how many times they can complete their whole sheet.
